For many Lineage II players, the most memorable moments weren't always about reaching the highest level. They were about finally earning a better weapon, gathering a party for a dangerous hunt, or finding an item valuable enough to change your next few days in Aden.

That's the feeling NC wants to bring back with Lineage II: BASIC, a new Korean server experience announced for the game's 23rd anniversary. Scheduled to open on , BASIC places equipment acquisition, crafting, Adena trading and cooperative play at the center of the experience.

The concept is deliberately straightforward. Rather than speeding players through familiar early equipment and layering more systems onto character growth, NC is promising a slower journey where the things players obtain are meant to matter.

The guiding principles

Three words. One direction.

01 / STANDARD

Start small.

Begin with No-Grade gear and work toward meaningful upgrades instead of skipping the early game.

02 / SIMPLE

Keep it clear.

Reduce progression complexity and put the focus back on fundamental MMORPG activities.

03 / SLOW

Make it last.

Let hunting, equipment improvement and cooperation give each stage of growth its own value.

NC describes the three principles as Standard, Simple, and Slow. The new server's slogan—a new adventure starting with a Falchion—uses one of Lineage II's humble early weapons as a symbol of the entire idea.

BASIC is not simply asking players to remember old Lineage II. It's asking whether the journey itself can feel rewarding again.

There is an important distinction: this is not a confirmed recreation of the original 2003 client or Chronicle 2 ruleset. NC has announced a revised server experience with classic-inspired priorities, alongside new systems and a completely new class.

Equipment & progression

A weapon should be a milestone, not a placeholder.

Players on BASIC are expected to start with No-Grade equipment and advance through early equipment grades at a measured pace. In particular, NC wants D-Grade gear to remain relevant instead of being rapidly discarded on the way to more powerful items.

Weapons and armor are intended to come from hunting and in-game activities, with tradable equipment becoming part of the server's economy. Rare items and Spellbooks are highlighted among raid rewards, while other activities supply currency, materials and consumables.

Hunting grounds

Earn the gear.

Equipment drops are presented as a central, repeatable reason to spend time in the world.

Raid Bosses

Chase the rare rewards.

Rare equipment and Spellbooks are among the valuable rewards associated with boss encounters.

NC also invokes Chronicle 2: Age of Splendor when describing a renewed emphasis on rewarding hunts and raids. That mention signals a design direction; it does not establish original Chronicle 2 drop tables, experience rates or class mechanics.

Crafting & economy

From monster drops to a living market.

Two interconnected announcements make BASIC particularly interesting: Common Craft and an Adena-centered economy.

Common Craft: useful items for every class

NC is introducing Common Craft, a system through which any character can create items using Crystals obtained through gameplay. The promotional material features Spellbooks, Soul Crystals and Soulshots as examples of relevant craftable goods.

  1. HuntFind items & resources
  2. CrystalsGather materials
  3. CraftCreate useful goods
  4. Trade / ImproveContinue progression

Conceptual illustration of NC's announced gameplay loop, not a complete crafting recipe or confirmation of how items are converted into Crystals.

Making useful consumables and progression materials craftable by every class could generate ongoing demand for resources gathered in the world. But the actual recipes, costs, success rates and method of obtaining Crystals are not yet available.

Adena should matter again

NC also wants Adena earned through hunting to anchor economic activity. Its presentation refers to buying items with Adena, trading items and currency through the Auction system, and managing supply and demand to preserve the currency's value.

This is an important change in emphasis. If players can obtain valuable items through hunting, use materials to craft goods and trade the results, the economy gains more reasons to exist beyond a series of one-way purchases.

Hunting, raids & PvP

An older world, with reasons to play together.

The promotional reveal revisits familiar places throughout Aden. Its hunting-ground sequence includes Abandoned Camp, Cruma Tower, Dragon Valley, Giant's Cave, Sea of Spores, Timak Outpost, Forgotten Plains, Fields of Massacre and Forest of Mirrors.

These are locations shown in promotional material, not a verified launch-zone list. NC has not yet published their BASIC-specific level ranges, spawn settings or reward tables.

Field raids and Epic Bosses

Field Raid Bosses and large-scale World Boss encounters are both central to the reveal. The showcased Epic Bosses include Queen Ant, Zaken, Frintezza, Baium and Antharas. NC describes encounters that bring larger groups of players together, but has not explained the participation rules, schedules, mechanics or loot ownership.

Clans, conflict and Castle Sieges

BASIC also emphasizes party content, clan battles and Castle Sieges. The siege presentation specifically discusses more balanced clashes between attackers and defenders, so that individual participation remains meaningful even in large-scale warfare.

It's an ambitious goal for a game historically shaped by powerful clans, contested bosses and political alliances. The mechanisms behind that balance—participant limits, matching rules or stat adjustments—remain unconfirmed.

The new class

Overlord: Bartz, and a legend from the players themselves.

NC has also announced a new melee class, referred to in English-language coverage as Overlord: Bartz (Korean: 패왕: 바츠). Promotional footage presents a fast, mobile fighter using dagger-type weapons, with striking dual-dagger imagery.

The name has history. The Bartz Liberation War was a famous player-driven conflict on a Korean Lineage II server, remembered for the resistance formed against a powerful alliance controlling parts of the game world. For a release emphasizing the value of player cooperation, the connection is particularly fitting.

Although the combat identity has been teased, the full skill set, class restrictions, numerical effects and detailed mechanics have not been revealed. NC plans to show additional Bartz skill information on .

Pre-registration rewards

NC's official pre-registration announcement identifies three rewards for eligible accounts:

RewardPurpose
+7 Falchion Exchange CouponChoose the advertised weapon or a class-appropriate equivalent.
+5 Bronze Armor Exchange CouponChoose the advertised armor or an equivalent suitable for the class.
Lineage II BASIC Growth Support PackA starter package of essential consumables; full contents not detailed in the release.

The official notice calls the armor reward +5 in the coupon name but +7 in part of its description. This inconsistency requires clarification; +5 matches the advertised coupon title.

Coupons are limited to one per phone number and one redemption per account, and they must be registered before maintenance. The announcement describes rewards for the new Korean server environment.

Which servers will open?

Gludin is the originally announced new server. Updated promotional artwork has also been reported as naming Gludio and Giran as additional servers, but complete operational details and pre-registration applicability have not been independently established in an accessible official text notice.

There is no confirmed international launch date for BASIC. The dates in this article refer to NC's Korean announcement.

What we still don't know

The promises are clear. The numbers aren't.

The first reveal explains what kind of experience NC is aiming for. But for players deciding whether BASIC is the version of Lineage II they've been waiting for, several fundamental questions remain unanswered.

Will auto-hunting be available?
Automation, offline hunting and multi-client rules have not been detailed.
How slow is “Slow”?
XP/SP rates, maximum level, equipment-grade ceiling and progression schedule are unknown.
What will monetization look like?
Cash-shop products, BM-to-Adena access and paid progression advantages remain unspecified.
How will the economy work?
Crafting recipes, Crystal sourcing, auction restrictions and trading fees remain unpublished.
Which game systems survive?
NC hasn't provided a full list of retained, simplified or removed enhancement systems.
How will PvP and sieges work?
PK rules, clan war procedures, siege participation and balancing mechanics are not yet explained.

None of these unanswered questions should be interpreted as a feature being included or removed. In particular, the words Basic and Slow do not prove the absence of auto-hunting, premium progression or modern enhancement systems.

BonaLabs perspective

The interesting part isn't the nostalgia.

There is plenty of familiar imagery in the BASIC announcement: the Falchion, D-Grade equipment, classic hunting grounds, Epic Bosses and the story of Bartz. But the strongest part of the proposal is how those pieces are meant to connect.

If meaningful items are acquired through hunting, if materials support useful crafting, if Adena retains value through trading and if players genuinely benefit from playing together, then character progression becomes more than a race toward the next level. It becomes part of a shared world.

Whether NC can deliver that world will depend on decisions not yet disclosed: progression speed, item availability, automation, economy controls, monetization and the long-term content roadmap.

The next substantial reveal is expected on . Until then, BASIC is best understood as a promising, officially announced Korean server experience—not yet a proven return to every feature of classic Lineage II.
